Internationally-Trained Teachers Workshop

Jennifer Mills, Executive Officer, D12 OTBU

Are you an OTBU member who was educated and/or teacher-trained in another country? Are you interested in preparing for contract teaching and getting on the Eligible to Hire List for teaching next September? Are you confused by the Canadian education system and TDSB policies?

If so, you may be interested in attending our workshops. These workshops have been running for the past four years and have been very successful, thanks to the assistance of Mrs. Tasneem Khan in developing our workshops. Tasneem is an internationally-trained teacher herself who became a very successful and well respected principal within the TDSB. She is extremely knowledgeable about issues facing newcomers and understands the transitions that these teachers need to make.
Issues we address:
- classroom management
- resume building
- TDSB policies

At each workshop, we always look at sample interview questions and how best to answer them to reflect your skills and understandings. If these workshops sound as though they could be of use to you, consider attending. We always have new people joining. Perhaps you will be one of these people at our next meeting!

Date: Friday, Friday, March 9, 2012
Time: 4 to 6 p.m.
Location: CALC (City Adult Learning Centre) - southwest corner of Broadview and Danforth (right beside the bridge). We gather in the meeting room in the main office.
If you are taking the TTC, exit at Broadview Station and look to the southwest corner for CALC. There is also some parking available on the premises.
